prunesquallormd: (Effy - Lost in thought)

One of my favourite sayings that, mainly because it's so apt. I've only ever heard it from one person, mind you, a Welshman (and whose first language is Welsh) who translated it from the Welsh for me. He could have made it up on the spot for all I know. I wouldn't really care either way. It's still very appropriate.

So yeah, kind of a rough few weeks, emotionally speaking. Been struggling to stay positive, although the spring-like weather of the last couple of days has helped to lift my mood some.
It's always the same at this time of year, really. February is my Long Dark Teatime of the Soul (TM Douglas Adams :)) but March isn't far away I guess, and things usually start to look up around then. Fingers crossed!

Not written a word of fiction since the beginning of November :(. Really must get on that. It'll help that my current stint of GMing will almost certainly come to an end next week, so I'll have more time to do my own thing. Of course, the 'downtime' between my stints of running the game will need to include a fair bit of prep at some point (Masks of Nyarlathotep is about 250 pages long and I've still only read the first chapter and a half out of 5, although in my defence have read chapter 1 about ten times. Need to to get everything fixed in my head :/).

Last weekend I finallyfinallyfinally finished A Clash of Kings, with over a month to go before season 2 of Game of Thrones airs. Go me! It did take me a ridiculously long time, mind you. That was mostly because of the limited time I've had to read actual non-gaming related stuff recently, but also because I found it so stressful I was almost literally reading through my fingers at times (and I spent one rather restless night a couple of weeks ago actually lying awake and worrying about certain events and what they'd mean for my favourite characters. Overinvested? Me? I don't know what you're talking about :p

I briefly considered just piling straight on into A Storm of Swords, but then I decided I really needed a change, and especially something a little less intense. So I'm now reading Jane Gaskell's Atlan Saga, which I've been intrigued by since I was in my teens and finally picked up all five of them on ebay a few years ago (they've been out of print for ages). You couldn't get much different from George RR Martin really. I guess you'd describe them as a kind of prehistoric (well, ancient South America, contemporary with Atlantis, whenever you care to place that) romantic fantasy? I don't know. It's all rather immature and as far as I can tell is mostly aimed at a teen audience. Which is fine by me. I need something light and fluffy for a bit :)

Talking of light and fluffy, I'm guessing most of you have seen the He-man "cover" of "What's going on"? No? You really should. It's kind of hilarious XD

And those of you who are waiting impatiently for season 2 of Game of Thrones might enjoy this. It's fabulous (found via Shan; spoilers for all of season 1, a few clips from season 2 but nothing too spoilery I think). I've heard the song once before, quite recently, but I'd not heard of the band before. It's very much a grower though.

And finally there's this. Possibly the most epic reverse-scam ever in which our hero takes on one of those "Dear friend, I have just recently come into millions of dollars and I'd like to give you, oh random stranger from the internet, a goodly proportion of it" by weaving a web of Lovecraftian horror, Miskatonic University archaeological expeditions, Herbert West, Randolph Carter and all. It's one of my favourite things ever.

Well, that's all I've got. I hope winter's treating you well (those of you for whom it is winter!) and that you're all healthy and happy ♥ ♥ ♥
